Sven Durland - Fine Art Photographer

A native of Sweden, Sven has spent many years in the Pacific Northwest. Photography has been a passion of his for as long as he can remember. From receiving his first camera as a young child, to his latest electronic marvel, his interest in capturing images has grown stronger. Cameras and digital imaging have been a major part of Sven's previous engineering career as well.

Sven Durland began exhibiting his photos in 2005 and has since been in several art shows. His one-of-a-kind botanical macro images, rendered in a contemporary and vibrant fashion, have received many awards.

"I look for scenes out of the ordinary that I can freeze to preserve the uniqueness.

Most of my subjects are close to the lens, revealing their intriguing quality. Some

of my images are extreme close-ups to the point of abstraction. Shapes and

textures of botanicals that are not usually distinguished by the human eye are

reproduced and revealed in great detail on my art prints. I feel that I have succeeded

in capturing my image if the viewer does not recognize the subject at first glance,

hence making the image more interesting and worthy of a second look.

The most amazing phase in the digital darkroom is to see images develop out of a

large format printer with details larger than life. The print quality that can be achieved

with modern technology is just phenomenal. Print longevity is important and I'm

therefore taking advantage of archival printing with pigmented inks. Besides longevity,

the visual result is stunning."

Sept 2011 News Durland Photo Art at new Kaiser Permanente Hospital

Sven Durland's close-up botanical photos have been selected to decorate the walls at the new Kaiser Permanente Westside Medical Center currently being built just west of Portland, Oregon.
24 large gallery wrapped canvas prints (36x36 inches) were purchased for installation in 2012.
